2024 MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP

March 11, 2024 15:08

MEMBERS – The annual Match Play Club Championship will commence in April.  The Rules are attached.

Last year we did not set a “Deadline” for each match to have been played.  The result was that some players kept “putting off” their match and the last match wasn’t played until November.  This year, however, a deadline WILL be set so that once the players in a match have been identified, they will have 2 1/2 weeks max to play their match.  The 2 1/2 week period is so two Tuesday Blitzes will be within the period required for a match to be played.  Of course, the opposing players MAY choose to play on ANY DAY they can agree on as long as it is within the 2 1/2 weeks of the day the “Clock started” for their match. The “problem” that sometimes happens is that one of the players keeps delaying agreeing to his match while the other one states that he is ready to play within the following 2 1/2 weeks. While it is understood that sometimes a player’s “work schedule” makes it difficult for him to get time off to play his match; it must also be understood that putting off a match for many weeks or even months is excessive.

Please read the Rules carefully.  The clock starts as soon as a match has opened up with two players appearing in the bracket with a “Match slot” that needs to be played.  If one of the players cannot play that match within two and one half weeks of it being “Open for play” while the other has indicated that he is “ready to play” then the player that refuses to play within 2 1/2 weeks will forfeit that match.  Of course there always may be exceptions in cases with “Extenuating circumstances” however those will be adjudicated by the Tournament Committee whose decision is final.
